The word “art” does weird things to me. The arts are a huge part of my life. Art without emotion for me is just about as exciting as reading stereo instructions, though, granted what I consider to be a beautiful piece of art is not usually what others think is beautiful.
When I think of “the arts,” my mind is flooded with tons of different images. Not necessarily images of things which are traditionally associated with painting, singing, or dance. The things I think of are places I’ve been, pictures I’ve seen in magazines, or smells I remember from somewhere. Art for me has a very nostalgic value.
Whenever I hear or see the word "art" the first thing that comes to my mind is museams. I know art means other things like music and theater and dance, but for some reason art sticks in my mind mainly as statues and paintings. I differ from pollywog because, I never would have related the word "art" to have a nostagic value. I have been places where there was beautiful art all around me but that was not one of the things that came to my mind when I first read this blog question. Art to me seems boring when you put a word in front of it like the musical arts it brings more emotion and a clearer thought comes to my art. The word art is to broad and can mean many things.
When I hear the word art I think of my self, because I am an artist. So I feel at ease when I hear because I know that when I'm in art mode I'm able to think freely with out any borders. Art is a time to express yourself through words, dance, paintings, acting, photography etc... Art also allows the mind to act crazy and it stirs up the imagination in incredible ways. With art there isn't one point of view there is a countless amount of point of views. No one is right or wrong when it comes to art that's why I love it so much.
When I hear the word art, I immediately think of art class, which was extremely boring. All we did was study painters who couldn’t paint. They would draw a bunch of squares and call it some Latin word, and it would instantly become a masterpiece. My dog could paint better than most artists. However the word art doesn’t just cover painting and sculpting. It also encompasses everything that we do in life. I for example have mastered the art of eating fast food, and playing video games. While other people have mastered the are of going to school. Art is a very abstract word, it could mean, and infer millions of actions. But no matter what, I will also connect the word art, with horrible painters.
“Art”… a short word with a long definition. I personally believe that art brings a different meaning to everyone that you encounter. To me, art is something that we could not live without; art to me is what makes the world go round. When I speak of art I do not necessarily mean a statue from the late Roman Empire or a masterpiece created by Pablo Picasso but instead things in which we come across daily. The structures of buildings, the sounds, smells and sights of nature, music, books and novels, television, pictures, even people are sources of art. I believe that art comes in many shapes and forms and although I agree with dontknow2005 that in many cases people associate the word art with a terrible painter they learned about in class, I don’t think that people realize how much would be missing in our world if we did not have art.
When I hear the word “art”, I admit, I actually cringe. I planned my whole high school schedule around not taking any art classes, because art was the only subject that actually challenged me. But, not just challenged me, it actually frustrated me. However, I did participate and enjoy choir. Over the years however, I have matured and realized that art takes on many forms. Throughout these forms however, one thing is common, emotions are portrayed through each. Yet, everyone has a different idea of what art really is- which in my opinion is totally confusing. I don’t enjoy people telling me what they think art is. I rather figure it out myself.
Whenever I hear the word "art" I right away think of drawing and painting in all my old art classes I had to take. Art is not my best subject so I honestly try to avoid it at all costs. I know there are many different things to the word "art" then just painting and drawing. I know there is theatre, singing, dance etc. Like nygiants1017 said everyone has thier own definition of the word "art" and it is up to you to decide what you think it means. There are so may different forms and emotions that are involved it really has to be your opinion. Personally art to me is just what I did in my old art classes like painting or sketching a picture but I'm sure maybe my mind would change if I took more classes involved with art.
Sometimes I think of art as an image, or an arrangement of words, sounds, or gestures that can illuminate something I felt but couldn't express for myself.
I often find perceive in the juxtaposition of an image and a poem: if you want to see examples, check my personal blog,

When I think of "the arts" I think of music and how large of a role it plays in my life. Since the day I was born, I am told, I have always been infatuated with music. I am constantly listening to music and each day my music collection grows larger. Right now I have around 5,000 cds in my music collection. I listen to all different types of music, it all depends on what my mood is that day. Music just represents the feelings I cannot always express, triggers memories from the past and always puts me in a better mood. I also enjoy writing my own lyrics and compositions on guitar. Music will always play a large role in my life and without it I wouldnt be the person I am today
When I hear the word ‘art’ I automatically think of painting. Given a bit more thought, I begin to think of more than just pictures; I think of sculpture, music, theater, and architecture. I also think of poetry and literature. The arts are very important to me; they have been all my life, instilled in me by my mother. One of my favorite things to do is visit galleries, my favorites being (locally) the Yale University Art Gallery and the Wadsworth Atheneum. There is no better feeling in the world to me than to stand a foot away from a Pontormo or a Picasso and looking at the brush strokes they made and actually feeling them (not with hands, of course, but feeling them emotionally). I like all kinds of art, as well. From Medieval religious paintings to Dadaism, it moves me like nothing else does. I agree with pollywog when he/she says, “Art without emotion for me is just about as exciting as reading stereo instructions.” I can also relate to dmb910 when he/she talks about their love of music: pictures rouse the same emotions in me. Life without art is not as fulfilling as life with art, however, not everyone needs to be moved by it, or all of it. We all have our own passions; the important thing is to have it (passion).
When I hear the word "art" I usually immediately think of words like "superficial" and "self indulgent." While there are things I find aesthetically pleasing (the Chrysler Building, Klimt's "Goldfish," etc.) I feel like devoting a great deal of time to anything artsy is kind of impractical.
Art is a nice way to numb your brain without watching tv and simultaneously burn off some energy, but I think it's service is mainly to the artist (whose time may be better spent at work, putting food on the table). The recipient of art could certainly live without it.
As for dontknow's low opinion of artists, I can relate. But I would direct him to Pablo Picasso, who had mastered all conventional forms of art by the time he was a teenager, and spent the remainder of his eighty-some-odd years trying to represent things not as they appear to the eye, but as they appear to the mind. This often resulted in the kind of art that even a dog could paint (synthetic cubism), but given his lofty (most likely unachievable) goal, he may be easier to appreciate. His impossible quest is one of the reasons his "Don Quixote" sketch resonates more than any other line drawing I've ever seen.
The word art makes me think of photography. I am interested in it because it allows you to capture moments in time, which might not be remembered. If it is the look on your pups face when you are doing homework. Or when your child takes their first steps. Or when you are out driving and you come across this amazing sunset. I wish I could be more active with my photos. It is a way to unwind from the everyday life. In your photos you take what you want and what catches your eye. The other reason that I enjoy photos is that it is real people. Either your family members or friends or whom ever else is involved in your life. Even with professional photographers that got out to different countries and takes pictures. This allows us to be invited into their world for a short period of time.
Ive never really had much expirience with"the arts" however, when i think about it, i picture art classes and music classes in school. As NYGiants had said i kind of crindge. I have neevr been very good or ever succeeded in the arts. I must say that i do love photography and that is one thing i take from the arts. Its amazing to see what beutiful things you can take out of everyday life. I also think of dance when the ats comes to mind. Dancing is something that has been a part of my life since i was young. So in some ways the arts have been a "frightening" part of my life and also had great significance.
When I think of the word art, so much comes to mind. I don't neccessarily associate art with the great masterpieces like some people do. I personally feel that art can be anything the artist wants it to be. Cooking, drawing, painting, sculpting and dancing. All forms of art. I think art should be a peaceful and creative way to express feelings, emotions, and above all, who you really are. It is a wonderful representation of you as an idividual and what you can bring to life. Art should be a free form of expression with no judgment or criticism.
